Bio: Lula Abdulkarem (@LolaAli9477) is one of the most prominent Yemeni leaders and human rights activists. She started her political engagement when she began her activism in the Socialist Youth Union Ushid, which was formed in 1994. Lula was elected to be a member of the Governorate Secretariat and the head of its Human Rights Department. In 2014, she was elected to be a member of the Central Committee of the Socialist Party.

Lula graduated from Law School, focused on Public Law, and started her activism in women and children’s rights in 1999. She is a member of many organizations and societies concerned with human, women, and children's rights. She co-founded the Juvenile Care Association. She is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Yemeni Organization for Defense of Human Rights and Democratic Liberties. She is  the head of the Department of Rights and Freedoms.

Lula is a member of  Amnesty International's Yemen Group since 2000. She worked for several years in issuing reports on human rights violations in South Yemen and has been involved in providing shadow reports on violations that have occurred in Southern Yemen and against journalists. During her work, she wrote many articles on the law, and from the years 2005-2007, she edited a human right page in Al-Tahdith Newspaper, which aims to introduce international agreements that Yemen ratified. She was awarded in both the civil and legal fields by the Socialist Party in Aden. In 2013, she was a member of the National Dialogue Conference at part of the Rights and Freedoms Team. She was then elected as the head of the Civil and Political Rights Team.

Lula participated in the founding of the Aden Girls Forum and was elected to be the president of the forum. The forum supported girls to integrate into the market by providing them courses, developing their skills, and helping them start their own projects. She worked as a trainer on job skills in the Women and Technology Program in cooperation with the Soul Organization and Alidarous Association. Lula has also worked in training youth with the Islamic Relief Forum in the field of strategic planning and humanitarian field. She participated in many local and international conferences and workshops on human rights, conflict context, and women's and children's rights. She is the founder of the Arab Youth Network that was established in Iraq in 2010. She held the position of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights for the Grievances and Equity sector in 2016. Lula participated as a feminist leader in political meetings with the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, the European Institute of Peace, the Berghof Organization of the German Foreign Ministry. She also participated in a number of international events and meetings with the European Union ambassadors regarding developments in the political situation, the war in Yemen, and finding possible solutions for peace in Yemen.
